The Bangladesh Cricket Director says that Bangladesh can win the World Cup despite being eliminated from the first round of the Asia Cup.

Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the director of Bangladesh cricket, says that the Bangladesh team, which was eliminated from the first round of the Asia Cup, has the ability to even win the World Cup.

“As I am a positive person, I try to stay positive and I believe we can even become world champions. But the road will not be easy. Maybe it will take us six months to a year,”

“Our main objective is to see if we improve or not. I want the players to have a complete understanding of the format. A lot of people are mocking us because of this format but we have faith and belief that we can do well.” Commenting, Mahmud added.

He had positive comments about their new style of play in the upcoming New Zealand tournament

“I want the batsmen to play with guts as we want to play free attacking cricket. And if the batsmen incorporate that style and get dismissed on the very first ball, I don’t see any problem. One or two matches may not be won in the three-way tournament held in New Zealand.

He also said that Afif Hossain can play better than former Indian captain Virat Kohli.

“I don’t believe that our batsmen are not capable of hitting like Rohit Sharma. Whatever Kohli does, I don’t believe Afif can’t do it. Maybe our Afif can play better than him.. We need that confidence not to limit us,”

Mahmud also said that he engaged in a verbal war with the Sri Lankan players and team management during the Asia Cup.

Ahead of the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, the Bangladesh team is scheduled to begin their three-day training camp on September 12. The selection committee is expected to announce the main squad by September 15.

“We will conduct split practice sessions where we will work on specific areas keeping the batsmen’s roles in mind. We are fielding 30-31 cricketers in the camp so there could be some surprise entries and we may recall some proven players.”

“There are a few pacers in the camp but not everyone will be contenders for selection. As [T20 technical advisor] Sridhar Sriram has not looked at all the players yet, it is important for him to see some other players as he looks after the T20 format,”

Commenting further, the Bangladesh Cricket Director said, “However, it is no secret that he had overestimated Bangladesh in the last period. But it was questionable whether they came to the extent of the assessment among talents.
